The triumph of Architecture and Theater at the International Congress "Architecture 2019"

April 23-24, 2019 in Moscow in the World Trade Center, Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment 12 the International Congress "Architecture 2019" took place. The traditional industry event, organized by the Architect Agency with the support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the Moscow City Duma and the International Academy of Architecture, received more than 900 applications from architects and experts from Russia and other countries, as well as Chairpersons of relevant committees of ministries and governments of Russian cities and Moscow City Duma. This year, declared the Year of Theater in Russia, the theater architecture was emphasized, as well as the urban public environment as a stage platform and a space for sociocultural innovations with the participation of not only architects and urbanists, but also a wide range of artists and cultural figures. At the Congress 2019, more than 70 reports and presentations by delegations from Germany, Italy, Latvia, Denmark, Turkey, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and many cities of Russia were delivered.

The first day of the Congress 2019, April 23, was devoted to a discussion on current and fundamental theoretical problems of architecture and urban planning. The opening ceremony was addressed by President of the Moscow branch of the International Academy of Architecture (MAAM) Andrey Bokov, Director of the department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Selivanov

Further, in the framework of the reports of the IAAM forum and the discussions of the first day, such leading architects, urban planners and architecture researchers took the floor: Sergey Skuratov, Andrey Kaftanov, Mikhail Belov, Andrey Ivanov, Totan Kuzembaev, Dmitry Pshenichnikov, Alexander Skokan, Ruben Arakelyan, Kirill Arkhipov, Andrey Nekrasov, Vadim Grekov, Timur Bashkayev, Mikhail Beilin, Anton Nadtochy, Sergey Kryuchkov, Nikolay Shmuk, Anna Shchetinina, Yuliya Bychkova, Nikita Tokarev, Narine Tyutcheva, Dmitry Fesenko and others. Yury Vissarionov, vice-president of the MAAM, and Maria Romanova, Head of the Architecture and Interior Design Studio Enfilade MARO, acted as moderators. In the course of reports and discussions, a wide range of issues from the vocation of the profession of an architect, the study and preservation of heritage to the actual challenges of the industry was covered. More than twenty reports were made on the first day of the Congress 2019.

The popularity and significance of the Congress for the industry were emphasized by Chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov. As part of his speech to MAAM academicians, he noted that the 2019 Congress is one of the most successful and rare examples of interaction between leading figures of the industry and young architects, which is important for ensuring continuity and creative impulse at the beginning of the professional path. Speaking for young architects, artists and students from leading architectural schools in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the course of the Arch&Art Battle sketching program Chief architect of Moscow emphasized the contribution of creative ideas to the robotic future and, using his own example, spoke about the role of perseverance and motivation for success in the chosen field.

The second day, April 24, devoted to discussions and workshops held in the thematic sectors of the Congress 2019, was opened by the distant appeal “From urban apartment to land” of the theorist of architecture, the Leading Researcher of the Department of the theory of architecture NIITAG Alexander Rappaport (Russia, Latvia).

The discussion on the topic “Investment development of socially responsible business in Europe, Russia, and Asia. The ”Modul for all” and “Architecture of Longevity” programs in the context of the development of public spaces” was attended by Head of Nickl&Partner Architekten AG, specializing in public health, social housing and urban planning, Hieronimus Nickl (Germany), Associate partner of KHR Arkitekter Palle Bo Rasmussen (Denmark), Executive Director of the Communication and Exhibition Design Agency of OGS Marilena Puppi (Italy). Discussion on the theme “Sustainable development of territories. Consulting and support of business activity, public-private partnership programs ”was supervised by Director of Real estate advisory services at Ernst & Young Ilya Sukharnikov. Within its framework, the results of the group under the leadership of Head of the Design and Study Laboratory for the experimental design of cities at HSE Dmitry Narinsky “Digitization of spatial planning” were presented. The discussion was attended by Chief Architect of the NIIPI Urban planning project Alexander Antonov, Head of the Urban planning modeling sector of the General Plan Institute of Moscow Ayrat Akhmetov, architect Alexey Merkulov, Head of the Project direction of the Center for Strategic Research North-West Dmitry Sanatov, Deputy Director and Chief Architect of the SPI Planning Group Kirill Solgalov, architect and BIM specialist Sergey Volkov, as well as  Chairman of the Council on Green Building Alexander Stroykov, and Professor of the City Planning Department MARHI Alexey Krasheninnikov.

In the course of the discussion “The city and the theater as a single socio-cultural space: architecture of renovation, technical and social innovations; architecture of the future and the concept of sociocultural spaces; cultural tourism” such prominent speakers as MAAM Academician Mikhail Khazanov, Director of the Perm Academic Theater-Theater Anatoly Pichkalev, representative of the Perm creative cluster “Starokirpichny Lane” Sergey Aristov, Development Director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater Alla Platonova, Artistic Director of FSUE TPO Soyuzmultfilm Studios Tatiana Ilyina, Head of the Perm organization of the Union of Architects of Russia, long-time Chief Architect of Perm Sergey Shamarin, and Head of Graf X bureau Ruta Kruskopa (Latvia) shared their views on urban development as an active socio-cultural space. In the framework of the main theme of the theater, with the support of the Union of Artists of Russia, graphics and paintings by Ivan Milyaev, Anna and Alexander Meserer, as well as works by Designer of the Congress 2019 Vasilisa Chugunova were presented; curated by Marina Vengerova (Creative Union of Artists of Russia)

The charitable cultural association Sistema Copernicano (Italy) presented the collection “Theater of Fashion” by Florentine atelier GiuliaCarla Cecchi. The ballet dancers of the Gedeminas Taranda Academy of Ballet and singers of the School of Opera Singing named after Galina Vishnevskaya had their performances.

 

Head of the Penetron-Russia group of companies, well-known philanthropist Igor Chernogolov, as well as Victor Belov and Yevgeny Snigarkov made a presentation on the topic “Investment development of socially responsible business”. In collaboration with Penetron-Russia, the film “Congress 2019>>2020” will soon be released.

The Program of additional online education “Development Territory. Comfortable environment for all” was presented. It is based on the method of Nobel laureate Ricardo Valentini "Smart technologies for sustainable development of the urban environment in the context of global change", which was presented by Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Agrarian-Technological Institute RUDN Elvira Dovletyarova. In addition, there were presentations by Moscow architects Igor Lozinsky and Mikhail Tyurin.  


Head of the Union of Architects of Tajikistan, the representative of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in the CIS countries Bakhrom Yusupov was elected an academician of the IAAM at the Academy meeting held at the Congress.

Representatives of the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture, including Head of the Union of Architects of Tajikistan, Representative of the Prize in the CIS countries Bakhrom Yusupov, opened the exhibition of the Prize winners for previous years with an emphasis on objects in Tajikistan. In parallel with the Moscow Congress in Kazan, within the framework of the economic summit “KazanSummit 2019”, a list of nominees for the 2019 Award was announced, including the Program for the Development of Public Spaces of the Republic of Tatarstan. The award ceremony will be held in September 2019 in Kazan - for the first time in Russia. The Baltic Architecture Center, which is Partner of the Congress 2019,  is participating in an information campaign to highlight the activities of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in Russia and the Russian-speaking space, including the CIS countries and the EU. Head of BAC, Aivija Barda (Latvia), curated the networking “A World for All: Looking for the Future. Bifurcation Point ”, where socially-oriented projects of architectural funds from east to west were presented with the participation of the Aga Khan Foundation, the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation, the Perspective Foundation, as well as colleagues from Italy, Scandinavia, Turkey, Germany. Within its framework, the winners of a two-day Sketching Contest for young architects and students were announced. Angelina Filip and Ekaterina Sitnikova, fourth-year students of SPSUACE, were awarded a week-long internship in Riga with visits to Latvian theaters (Prize of the Baltic Architectural Center). The winners of the Romualdo Bianco Foundation's “Meeting Place” Award (weekly internship in Italy with full payment for the flight and accommodation) will be announced later.

According to Head of the BAC, Aivija Barda, architects and designers, as well as researchers of architecture, and other creative professionals, as well as representatives of government and business should meet from time to time, share their successes, and discuss common difficulties. In such an inspiring, and at the same time business-like and creative atmosphere, new ideas use to be conceived, the desire to live and build. In turn, Ekaterina Chugunova, Director of the Congress 2019 and the Agency Architect, believes that, thanks to the unique multidisciplinary format, the hypotheses and specific proposals of architects and experts expressed during the discussions, workshops and on the sidelines of the Congress 2019 will not only stimulate each of the participants but also they will form the basis of documents and resolutions of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the Moscow City Duma, and other structures. “Now, on a wave of impressions from a real feast of architecture, we all have to once again plunge into work in order to gain experience of accomplishments and enthusiasm, failures and perplexities. And to meet again next year in Moscow, in the World Trade Center - at the Congress 2020, ” the main organizer of the event is confident.

The professional conversation that began in Moscow will continue in June as part of the festival of democratic discussions LAMPA (Cesis, Latvia), then in Perm, Kazan (Russia) and Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Florence and Milan (Italy).

Head of the Department for universal design and leadership development for adolescents and young people with disabilities of the NGO Perspective Maria Gendeleva was primarily interested in theater for people with special needs, as well as issues of universal design and accessibility of the environment. 

 

The discussion “The City and the Theater as a Single Socio-Cultural Space” was attended not only by the masters of architecture and theater, but also by the artistic director of the Soyuzmultfilm Studios Tatyana Ilyina.
